The ADHD Love Movement started a few years back thinking about people with ADHD, their strengths and their struggles in their day to day lives. How important it is for them to know they are loved. Persons with the diagnosis, more than others, need to know they are loved. If they don’t get to hear it more often, and feel it more often, they automatically get into doubt-mode and start to believe they are not loved, or not loved enough. It is important for ADHD ers themselves also, to try to remember that they actually are much more loved than they beleive. In the ups and downs of the emotional ADHD roller couster it is in the down part it’s most needed and that is when it is the hardest to remember. Family, colleagues, teachers and friends need to say it and show it.The world also need to hear that so many people love someone with ADHD!
ADHD Awareness Sweden brought up this subject with the worlds most scientificly cited expert on ADHD Dr. Russell Barkley, here is his reply :
“One of the most important factors in the success of people with ADHD is the support of their loved ones through both the good and especially the bad times. The social safety net their loved ones provide to them as well as the emotional and other support they often supply is a major factor in the well-being and quality of life of those with ADHD. So, during this month of ADHD Awareness, and even afterwards, show your support for your loved ones with ADHD.”
